Job Description

Leisure & Culture Dundee is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) SC042421. It was established by Dundee City Council in July 2011 to deliver leisure, sports, library, information and cultural services for the city.

Working 25 hours as part of a team of Fitness Instructors to deliver a wide range of health and fitness services across mainstream and referral programmes. You will be based predominantly at Olympia but may be asked to provide cover across other Leisure and Sport sites.

This is a fixed term post for 6 months, with the potential to become a permanent post.

Requirements

The individual should hold a minimum of a level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification, a GP or Exercise Referral Qualification* and hold a current and valid First Aid Certificate.

*or be willing to work towards, and successfully attain, the qualification within 3 months of being offered the post.

Responsibilities

To deliver a wide range of fitness services across Leisure and Culture Dundee programmes which will include working on mainstream and referral based programmes with those who experience multiple barriers to physical activity participation and those with long term medical conditions

The Individual

The individual should hold a minimum of a Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification, a GP or Exercise Referral Qualification and a current First Aid certificate. Where the successful candidate does not hold a relevant qualification in GP or Exercise Referral, there is an expectation that they attain the qualification within 3 months of being offered the post. Qualifications in Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cancer Rehabilitation and a Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification are desirable. The individual should be experienced in delivering Gym and Circuit based exercise sessions for a wide range of clientele, in a group and 1:1 setting. In addition, the individual should be experienced in conducting 1:1 consultations and fitness sessions, as well as prescribing appropriate fitness plans.

The individual should be approachable, reliable and have the ability to motivate other. In addition, they should possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, and be able to plan and organise time effective.

The post includes weekend and evening working across multiple sites therefore the candidate should be able to take a flexible approach to work. A valid driver’s licence is also desirable. As the industry is constantly evolving the individual should be willing to undergo further training as part continued personal development and service provision enhancement.

Due to the nature of the post, there is an expectation for the individual to become a member of the PVG scheme for both vulnerable adults and children.
