Summary

Calderdale Royal Hospital is offering an exciting development opportunity to recruit a member of staff who is keen to gain the skills required to become a Biomedical Scientist.
The Cellular Pathology laboratory prepares samples for histology, non-gynae cytology, and andrology. We also have a mortuary facility at Calderdale and Huddersfield.
The successful applicant will be working towards or hold an accredited Biomedical sciences degree and be flexible to work early and weekend shifts.
The work involves rotating and maintaining competence in all areas of Cellular Pathology and must complete the degree in biomedical sciences, IBMS registration portfolio and biomedical scientist departmental training logbook within 12 months.
On achieving the required qualifications and completion of the training logbook the successful applicant will progress to a Biomedical Scientist position band 5.

To act under supervision in a scientific role and to carry out all routine investigations within the department, following such training as may be necessary, ensuring the quality of the service. To assist in the provision of the cellular pathology and mortuary service for the trusts hospitals and CCGs by providing knowledge and technical skills to process, analyse and understand results of diagnostic tests. Rotate on a regular basis through the different sections of the department. To train junior members of staff, be involved with service development through the laboratory and clinical audit. Continuous professional development will be essential for this post and further study will be encouraged.

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS – yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members – patients, staff and the local community.

Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.
