EDF Energy are recruiting within the Nuclear Skills Alliance (NSA) team, to develop and deliver high quality training across our existing and new power stations, ensuring that Nuclear safety remains our overriding priority and helping to enhance and support our diverse workforces skillsets.

The opportunity

As our Nuclear Operations Training Instructor, your role will be to support Nuclear Operations, decommissioning and Nuclear New Build (NNB).

You will be joining a team with a wide variety of skills, experience and knowledge to train, upskill and support you in meeting our stakeholder requirements to ensure our workforce is able to meet their commitments safely and to time, cost and quality.

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of key training areas adhering to the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process, ensuring Nuclear Operations and NNB personnel have the requisite initial knowledge to carry out their roles safely and effectively. The successful applicant must ensure high quality and accuracy of training material, adherence to fleet training standards and the highest standards of training delivery.

We have two full time roles within the area of Nuclear Operations. All roles are based within the South-West of the UK, working to a hybrid model, however some travel may be required when necessary to support training programmes.

We can offer a competitive salary from £40,069
- £71,799 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement based on your demonstration of competences, experience, and qualifications. We offer a company pension scheme, 28 days annual holiday and a range of flexible benefits.

What you’ll be doing

As an EDF Nuclear Skills Academy (NSA) Training Instructor, you can impact the performance of the organisation through training that meets the needs of the business. You will work closely with our customers to support knowledge transfer, provide workforce mentoring whilst learning and developing your own skills and forging an exciting future within a growing industry.

The key duties the successful candidate will be required to carry out:


- Development and delivery of area specific training material.
- Support classroom training and simulator training environments, as well as providing coaching and mentoring of trainees to expedite learning.
- Act as course coordinator for responsible training areas.
- Become a subject matter expert for their areas of delivery.
- Ensure Nuclear Safety, Industrial Safety and Operational Experience (OPEX) are embedded throughout the training material.
- Form and maintain relationships with stakeholders, supporting the development of high-quality training material and delivery.
- Perform analysis to ensure the training meets the organisation and stakeholder expectations and propose changes if identified and required.
- When and if required: liaise with external contractors to provide training support services.
- Fully contribute to the NSA business plan to achieve of our company organisational goals.


Who you are

For this role, you will have a minimum of a HNC in a relevant technical subject with experience in an engineering or operations related discipline such as Nuclear/Conventional power generation, however relevant experience in other related industries will be considered.

You’ll have strong Microsoft Office skills such as PowerPoint and Excel and be able to effectively plan your program areas to meet stakeholder requirements. You’ll possess confident communication and presentation skills and be confident to work in a team environment and autonomously as required.

The role will require an agreed degree of mobility, to deliver relevant training away from your base location (travel, accommodation etc. are managed within the company travel policy).

Ideally you’ll have knowledge of training processes; Systematic Approach To Learning (SAT/DSAT), modern learning methods and experience of bringing these to bear in the development and delivery of training. (Training is provided).

Experience in the use of training development tools (Vision) would be advantageous but training will be provided.

Ideally you’d hold a recognised teaching/training qualification or have experience within an education/instructional environment. (Instructor techniques and continued progression training will be provided). Also you’ll ideally have an understanding of the key aspects of nuclear power plant systems / components however training will be provided.
