Summary

78802 - Lead Field Engineer

This Lead Field Engineer will report to the Central London Area Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our London Shorts Gardens office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £89,786 plus car plus inner London allowance and a bonus of 3%

Central London Area is a team set up to meet the demands of high profile customers in predominately the Cities of London and Westminster and the London Borough of Southwark.

The team consists of

1. A 24 hour shifted fault response and repairs to 11KV and LV issues looking to achieve

· An average time to site for LV issues of 30 minutes

· Power on for HV issues in 60 minutes

2. A shifted Maintenance team to look after inspection and maintenance of the plant and equipment in central London.

3. A weekday team under the line management of the Infrastructure Day LFE responsible for making network enhancements, switchgear changes and other infrastructure projects.

You will work with the 24 hour shifted team to deliver the enhanced performance within the Central London area. This includes liaison with customers, network operations and control, supervision of field staff and the management of contractors. This will involve close working with the full-time Central London customer Liaison team, The London Network operations DCD team and distribution planners.

JOB PURPOSE:

You will help achieve Networks Branch and Company targets.

You will oversee the coordination and performance of many field engineers carrying out reinforcement projects within Central London. You will ensure works are carried out safely to time, cost and quality standards.

Ensure that customer service levels are maintained at the highest levels. This includes resolving escalated customer technical issues.

Dimensions

Staff: circa 8-10 Field Engineers (SAP and AP).

Manage projects from LV up to 11 KV. Turnover c £4M, Capital Programme.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Provide engineering, safety and management leadership to a group of field engineers working across all operational disciplines.
  2. Ensure the level of field engineering within the Area is improved and that field engineers are developed by being a mentor;
  3. Deputise for the Area Manager;
  4. To liaise with the Network Planners, and London DCD, in prioritising the critical capital workload to be delivered within Central London ensuring that it is completed promptly.
  5. Ensure that a high standard of safety management prevails throughout all responsibilities and that safety performance is maintained within UKPN values. Promote the stay safe culture..
  6. Ensure staff comply with Company procedures and deliver work to the required standards.
  7. Coordination with the locally based schedulers and civil works contractor to ensure planned repairs and infrastructure projects are delivered in a safe, prompt and cost-efficient manner. This will include coordinating with central London customer Liaison team to ensure suitable customer outcomes are achieved for planned works.
  8. Liaise on matters of operational, plant and cable policy with Networks experts to ensure the right balance is maintained between safety, cost, quality and delivery.
  9. Support daily planning, coordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources including directly employed staff and, if appropriate, contractors.
  10. Improve the performance of the Area.
  11. Removal of barriers to the efficient delivery of work across all directorates.
  12. Work with Field Staff Supervisors, Regional support, and Delivery Services to ensure the best utilisation of all staff and to improve customer experiences.
  13. Establish a process of continuous improvement through the IPR process to develop staff and utilise new technology.
  14. To carry out Field Engineer operational Behavioural Exchanges.
  15. Contribute to an ongoing high-level Strategic Resource Plan.
  16. Support the Area in preparation, readiness and implementation for a system emergency at local tactical team.

Nature and Scope

You will be an experienced engineer with understanding of the business from an operational perspective. You will be an important member of the Operational team within the Area and must demonstrate intelligent balanced judgement in all matters, in particular those relating to people at all levels in our business An understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are essential in delivering the businesses objectives is required.

Additionally, the post holder must

  • Liaise with managers within UKPN. Have integrity and demonstrate a co-operative and team-based approach to achieving overall business objectives.
  • Be able to demonstrate you are practical and results oriented by virtue of your actions, in the form of moving others to action by planning, motivating, organising and controlling tasks and deliverables.
  • Acute acumen in respect of planning and logistics and commercial issues through your ability understand situations quickly, from many perspectives, and to produce well reasoned proposals and solutions.
  • Be focused on and demonstrate an ability of delivering complex customer and operationally driven projects and programmes to time and budget.

Experience:

You will have both a high degree of experience in field engineering and be able to demonstrate commitment towards meeting business targets. You will be someone who inspires those you mentor, setting the highest of standards in all areas including professional conduct. We ask that you can liaise with other directorates within UKPN to problem solve and develop and implement new initiatives.

The base level qualifications/courses are as follows;-

  • HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (See Note 1 below);
  • Full SAP at 11KV
  • NEBOSH Certificate (See Note 2 below);
  • 3 day Leadership and 1 day Communication skills course (See Note 2 below);

To recognise the significance of this position you will also continue your professional development in engineering, safety, leadership and general management. You will therefore be encouraged to be a member of the IET.

Notes for candidates that do not satisfy all of the above requirements/qualifications

  1. As an exception for this advert candidates that have all the necessary experience and attributes to undertake the role, but do not hold a HNC may still be considered if they are prepared to undertake further studies to obtain a HNC or equivalent qualification. In such cases an agreed period of secondment to band C would be offered to obtain the qualification.
  2. Candidates who do not already possess this qualification are still eligible to apply. Should they be successful they will have to achieve the qualification/course within a reasonable period after their appointment;

You should hold a NRSWA Supervisors certificate, and possess a clean driving licence.
