Summary

Hours of work: 10 hours per week 11.30am – 1.30pm TTO plus 2 inset days This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic, highly motivated and dedicated staff team as a School Meals Supervisory Assistant (SMSA) at New Fosseway School. The key responsibilities of the SMSA at New Fosseway School is to supervise pupils while they are having dinner and in the playground, to support pupils who are not independent feeders with their dinners, to assist pupils with their personal care needs. You don’t need experience to apply for this role but you do need empathy and compassion, physical and mental resilience and the drive to make a real difference to the lives of our young people.
About New Fosseway School
New Fosseway School is a special school for pupils between the ages of 4—19. We offer high quality education for children with a range of needs including severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and autistic spectrum disorder. Pupils are grouped by ability and to meet their social needs rather than age. They learn core skills including Literacy, Numeracy and Science as well as life and living skills including cookery and gardening. Some of our pupils are non-verbal using alternative means of communication including Makaton, signs, symbols or communication aids, often using a multi-sensory approach. Supporting our students can sometimes be challenging. They may get frustrated, anxious and emotional and you will need to guide them through it by helping them to manage their feelings and behaviour.
