Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to work in our large Therapy Services department, working in a busy regional respiratory outpatient service alongside a multiprofessional team and focusing in the field of adult long term ventilation. This will include hospital and community based assessments and treatment sessions, as well as multiprofessional long term ventilation clinics.

This post is part of the wider Therapy services department and therefore you will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 290 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.

We run a 7-day therapy service working on weekends and Bank Holidays, on a roster basis, which will be expected as part of your working hours.

Attached you will find the person specification document which provides more detail about the essential and desirable skills and experience needed for this role. We highly recommend you review this document and use it when completing your application as these criteria are used by hiring managers as guidance during shortlisting.

For an overview of the main duties of the role please see the ‘Job Description and Main Responsibilities’ section below. To understand the day-to-day responsibilities in more detail please read the full job description document attached.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

This B7 Adult Respiratory Physiotherapist post is based in the respiratory centre (TRC) within University Hospital Southampton. The centre was set up to help reduce the number of people who need to be admitted to hospital, reduce length of stay, and improve care for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung diseases, including difficult asthma, allergies and interstitial lung disease. This involves a large clinically-based multi-disciplinary team.

This post is suitable for an experienced Band 6, or current Band 7 Physiotherapist, with experience in the management of patients requiring long term ventilation, and knowledge of respiratory triage, assessment and treatment. Some of this work is community based, so the ability to drive, or travel independently, carrying and fitting equipment, is an essential part of this role.

The respiratory clinics run on weekdays, however our overall therapy service is a 7-day service and includes working on weekends and bank holidays, so flexibility is required to cover rosters.

If you enjoy working in a team, treating experience with complex respiratory conditions, have a passion for research and keeping up-to-date with the use of new technologies, then we would love to hear from you. Please contact Denise.Gibson@uhs.nhs.uk for further details and with any questions you may have.
