An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Ophthalmology Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a Band 2 Trainee Ophthalmic Assistant. Following the successful completion of a range of Ophthalmic competencies there will be progression to a Band 3 Ophthalmic Assistant post.

We are looking for a caring and motivated individual who has a genuine interest in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate must have good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a friendly team in a busy and dynamic environment. In return, the post offers the opportunity for further development and training within Ophthalmology.

There may be a possibility of cross site working at Ophthalmology Outpatients at The Princess Royal Hospital Hospital, Telford, so flexibility is a must. Someweekend and evening working will be required.

The position will involve undertaking a variety of skills such as carrying out visual acuities, visual field testing, ocular coherence tomography, assisting with minor ops andscrubbing to assist with intravitreal injections.

There will be a requirement for accurate input of patient details and diagnostic testing results into a dedicated ophthalmic database.

Each person, patient or visitor, visiting our ophthalmic departments will be met with courtesy and respect. The individual will be treated confidentially with dignity maintained at all times, thus maintaining a high standard of individualised care.

In applying our philosophy of care we aim to deliver a high standard of care to all patients within the department ensuring that each person leaves understanding the information needed to make an informed decision regarding their care and that all their needs are met.

Working as part of a team in a busy outpatient clinic. Will be trained to undertake various ophthalmic competencies.
