Summary

As a Support Worker there is a lot of variety. You could be working across a variety of settings, including people's own homes, schools, supported living services or care homes, and out in the community. Being a Support Worker means to be there for a child or young person who needs support with a diverse range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and mental health needs.

What's involved:

· Looking after and taking care of potentially vulnerable children with different levels of mental health, social and emotional needs.

· Assisting with and working within their care plan, carry out risk assessments, reviews, incident & accident reporting.

· Providing physical and emotional support which may include helping with household tasks and personal care.

· Contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting learning, independence, and experiences.

· Encouraging the child or young person to feel confident in their community and to actively participate within their peer group.

· Dealing with a range of challenging behaviours to provide a safe, non-judgemental, and compassionate environment for children and young people to learn.

· Building relationships with the children and families to promote emotional support and wellbeing.

· Support routines which could include waking up and going to school, supporting at school, activities outside, visiting the community.

· Maintain professional relationships with clients, family and external health care professionals and adhere to company policies and procedures.

What We Need

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt and act accordingly to situations.

· Patience and emotional resilience.

· A non-judgemental attitude regardless of a person's needs.

· The ability to remain calm under pressure and when dealing with challenging situations.

· Experience of managing children in a professional or personal capacity

· DBS on the Update Service or be willing to make a new application.

· Driving licence would be advantageous but not essential

· Either possess or be willing to undertake qualifications to support your personal development
