Secondly, the candidate will lead a pilot project within one Primary Care Network to develop a best practice model of the processes around cervical screening for people with learning disability, improving uptake by facilitating appropriate support in line with national guidance and practice. This can then be shared across the city and more widely across the ICS to support the LD population over a wider area. Key elements of the work will focus on implementing the Equality Act 2010 and include using information and invitations for screening are sent in an accessible, easy read format, being sensitive to cultural differences and addressing those requirements and developing robust processes in practice following the principles of the Mental Capacity Act so that health inequalities are reduced. The work of the post holder will expand upon existing work where there are currently gaps. Some suggestions include, not exhaustively, the co-production of accessible information for people with lived experience about 2WW referrals for possible cancers, raising awareness in professionals on spotting early signs of cancer, education of professionals supporting people with LD through the 2WW referral process, coproduction of accessible information on spotting signs of cancer and how to avoid cancer and organise specific education events for people with LD and how to empower patients and carers to escalate and communicate concerns. The successful candidate will be supported to complete a final report of what was undertaken throughout the year, the impact of the work and how this may be implemented and embedded more widely in the future.
