Summary

Quality Service DeliveryTo maintain Point of Care equipment as directed ensuring all protocols and quality standards are met Following protocols and based upon personal investigation to remove from use any equipment / analyte not deemed to meet the required quality standards To ensure good stock control of consumables both within the department and at each Point of Care site on any Trust site or in the community To order agreed consumables from manufacturers to agreed financial values To directly liaise with the manufacturers of equipment where problems occur that require manufacturers intervention To maintain good communication within the Point of Care team in order to maximise efficiency through agreed priorities and to achieve the aims of Point of Care analysis on a daily basis To maintain good communication with the clinical staff using the Point of Care service in order to maximise the efficiency of delivery to the patient and ensure compliance with the BSPS POCT Policy To support clinical staff where problems occur with the provision of service In liaison with other senior staff to ensure the departments quality standards are maintained and to troubleshoot any areas failing to meet these standards To participate in the audit of quality control measures within Point of Care. To include departmental and ward audits as necessary To participate in the provision of External Quality Assessment services both in house and to external customers To evaluate and implement new technologies to enable an improved and more efficient service To work with other members of the POCT Team to achieve and maintain accreditation against relevant ISO standards and comply with national POCT guidelines To acquire and maintain sufficient knowledge in order to be able to first line troubleshoot all key point of care equipment. Personnel To train users of Point of Care equipment To use agreed processes and competency measures when assessing staff in training To maintain up to date records of training and standard operating procedures (SOP) To contribute to the continued review of training processes and training material To highlight to senior staff where training issues occur To ensure own competencies prior to training others in a piece of equipment which may include attending off site training sessions offered by manufacturers of point of care testing equipment To ensure all training sessions are carried out in an effective and professional manner Health and Safety/Risk Management To keep an organised and tidy working area to ensure a safe working environment for self and others and to comply with Health and Safety requirements To comply with the Trust and SPS Safety, Security and Risk Management policies and to ensure the standards are maintained in Point of Care areas To comply with local POCT SOP directives regarding personal protective equipment and environmental cleaning to ensure safe working conditions for all and mitigate and contamination issues. The Trusts recognise and accept their responsibility to provide a safe and healthy working environment for anyone on their premises As an employee you also have a duty to take reasonable care of your own health and safety and you are required to follow all relevant health and safety Policies and Procedures General To participate in all aspects of the service including both the core and non-core hours as required To perform such other reasonable duties as may be required by senior staff. This may include upskilling in general POCT blood testing analysers out of hours. This job will require travel between trust sites both inside and outside of core working hours. Ability to drive and have own car essential.
