In this home-based role, you will join a highly supportive and innovative team as part of the East Midlands Cancer Alliance Centre for Psychosocial Health. The Centre seeks to pursue excellence in training, clinical practice, and research. The team is part of the Physical Health Psychology Team recognised by The Health Service Journal Awards, Macmillan Cancer Support Awards, The Health Business Awards, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust’s Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme.

The post-holder will contribute to multiple innovations developed by the team. This includes providing psychological skills training and supervision for cancer care staff and remote psychological therapy for people affected by cancer across the region.

The service is motivated to provide high quality personal and professional development, alongside opportunities to engage in high impact research output. The team have excellent links with local universities and DClinPsy courses providing opportunity for supervision, teaching and research.

The wider Physical Health Psychology team contributes to a variety of physical health specialties and colleague wellbeing. It is well connected with national initiatives in clinical health psychology.


Interviews will take place on Wednesday 17th April.

As a key member of the team, you will provide the full range of psycho-oncology services across the East Midlands, with a focus on areas of greatest need where there is little or no psychology provision. The EMCA Centre for Psychosocial Health consists of qualified and assistant clinical psychologists, supported by a team secretary and provide high quality, remote, specialist psychological assessment and therapy for individuals affected by cancer with complex physical and psychological health needs.

You will offer consultation, supervision and training for non-psychologist cancer professionals across health, social care and the voluntary and community sectors, spanning primary and secondary care. You will utilise research skills to contribute to the evaluation of the service, as well as for innovative service developments.

To support the team in the delivery of a remote psychological care pathway across the East Midlands Cancer Alliance region (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Northamptonshire & Rutland), provide remote specialised assessment and evidence based interventions to referred cancer patients across the East Midlands, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust policies and procedures.

Provide clinical supervision to an assistant psychologist and/or trainee clinical psychologists and support to other clinical psychologists/trainee clinical psychologists in the team.

Support and supervise non psychology colleagues e.g. students and other cancer professionals, in psychological aspects of their work with patients and their families.

Offer remote consultation, teaching, training and advice to cancer professionals across the East Midlands. Work closely with the “level 2 cancer” nurse specialists.

Assist the Principal Clinical Psychologists for the EMCA Centre for Psychosocial Health in developing and delivering evidence based psychological programmes and self management material.

Liaise with and facilitate access to mental health services, IAPT services and third sector support services as appropriate.

Utilise research and supervision skills.

To assist in the promotion of the service and dissemination of relevant psychologically informed practice across the wider health system, as required.
