Summary

Hours: Hours of work would be 8am to 8pm but will change in the future.
Salary: £15 p/h weekdays, £16 p/h weekends, £11.44 p/h sleep in shift, and double time on bank holidays

This role is to join an expanding, but small team of support workers who will assist our client in his residential unit until he moves into his own home. At this point the team will grow to 2:1 support seven days a week and may include sleep-in’s or waking nights.

Our client is a 31-year-old man living with an acquired brain injury and significantly difficult cognition. He is non-verbal but vocalises. He has a somewhat mischievous personality, and while he can be a little stroppy, is fun to be around. He is active, enjoys some of the adapted sports at The Calvert Trust, and the hydropool. He really enjoys sensory activities, loves the Bug from A Bug’s Life, and watching people, not least maintenance workers. He likes all forms of transport, music, car racing, and being out and about.
You will need a driving license and be a confident driver, in order to use our client’s Motability Renault Traffic, on short local drives, and sometime farther afield.

Job Specifications/Description
• To work with our client, a man who has a brain injury, in the residential home he resides in, and in the community.
• To enable him to participate in recreational activities that he chooses.
• To undertake household tasks when the client moves to his own property which will include cleaning, hoovering, laundry etc.
• All personal care requirements
• To act as a driver, using his/her vehicle mainly locally, and further afield if needed.
• To provide daytime, evening and weekend support, which will evolve into a full 24 hour support package (to include overnight care) once the client moves into his own property.
• To have availability enough to offer occasional cover for staff holidays and sickness – which may include weekdays.
• To aid and support the client as directed by the Case Manager/Team Leader.
• To follow an agreed approach, and use strategies documented in the support plan, working in collaboration with the client’s family, case manager, team leader and any other professionals when required. This will include following guidance and the rehabilitation programme that has been put in place by the clients MDT team.
• To undertake training and supervisio0n as agreed by the Case Manager.
• To ensure client confidentiality in all matters relating to the client.
• To provide assistance and support as directed by the Case Manager/Team Leader, and to be responsible to the client via the Case Manager/Team Leader.
• Any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client and Case Manager.
• To provide daily ongoing support/prompts to assist the client to undertake personal care and domestic activities.
• To accompany the client on holidays and weekends away when required.

Applicant Qualifications/Experience
• To have a knowledge or level of understanding around Brain Injury
• To have experience of working in a community setting or people’s own homes.
• You should have a non – judgmental approach with the ability to see things from other peoples’ perspectives and be respectful of their lifestyle choices.
• A calm communication style with clear pronunciation when speaking.
• An understanding of the ‘enabling approach’ and the ability to judge when direction needs to be offered to the client.
• A sense of humour is vital, along with an understanding of appropriate boundaries, with a mature, confident, and professional approach.
• To be able to integrate an understanding of brain injury - displaying empathy but with a non-patronising approach.
• The ability to follow the support plan, the case manager/team leader and guidance, and to accept feedback.
• To display an understanding that the workplace is also the client’s home.
• Have flexibility and a willingness to step in and help the client and family when the situation demands it.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of people involved with the client.
• To be self motivated and able to work unsupervised with the client
• Be Conscientiousness, have good timekeeping and good record keeping, using paper documentation and/or a laptop.
• Ability to identify and manage potential risks, to safeguard the client.
• You must be able to follow instructions and guidance as set out in a support
• plan.
• • You must be able to communicate with your colleagues and Team Leader
• You must be able to read information contained in reports, and also present information clearly and accurately when communicating with the team via emails and reports.
• You must have the ability to work on your own unsupervised, or as part of a team.
• You must have a full UK driving licence and be a confident driver of manual/automatic vehicles.
• You must be prepared to have business class insurance on your own vehicle if you have the use of one for work.
• You must be prepared to provide personal care.

Pay and Conditions
• You will be employed by the client via their Deputy.
• You will be line managed by the Team Leader on a day-to-day basis and overall by the Case Manager on behalf of the Deputy.
• The contract allows for 5.6 weeks paid leave and 2 weeks (paid/unpaid) sick leave.
• You will receive initial and on-going training, plus regular supervision from the Team leader and Case Manager.
• Rates of pay: £15 p/h weekday hours, £16 p/h weekend hours, £11.44p/h sleep in shift, and double time per hour on bank holidays.
