Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater

Are you an enthusiastic Engineer looking for the next step in your career? Are you experienced in Equipment design and construction activities? Do you have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills?

If so, join us as a Equipment Engineer and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

The Opportunity...

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, oversees the design (basic design) and the realisation (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects.

EPR-E is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.

As an Equipment Engineer, you will be supporting the construction of the two reactors on Hinkley Point C. You will also be the entry point for JDO contracts and equipment.

The Joint Design Office (JDO), is part of the HPC Engineering Directorate, collaborating with members from the Client and Responsible Designer (EDF EPR Engineering), offering technical support, addressing challenges, and resolving design issues during HPC site construction, erection, commissioning, and testing, including the resolution of open points and design changes.

Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a salary from £45,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing…

- Gathering all necessary input to address requests from building and erection contractors on equipment discipline.
- Producing technical assessments and solutions with supporting justifications.
- Liaising with design back-offices or execution designers when required.
- Assessing and listing the impacts of site changes on equipment design.
- Ensuring efficient communication and coordination throughout the change process.
- Reporting achievements, progress, and difficulties to the Equipment Discipline Lead.
- Raising alerts on any aspects of the design when identified.
- Contributing to the closure of design open points after the delivery of design packages to the site.
- Being an integral part of the JDO Equipment team; participating in team meetings, sharing technical insights and contributing to discussions.
- Collaborating with team members to achieve project goals.
- Contributing to building OPEX for other projects such as SZC or EPR2.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

- Science or mechanical engineering degree with a focus on equipment design and construction activities.
- Prior experience in equipment installation (site) or manufacturing.
- Preferably familiar with EUROCODE and RCC-M code, as well as 2D and 3D design software like PDMS and NavisWorks.
