Marshall Group have a brand new opportunity available for a Tax Assistant to join our Group finance function.

The Tax Assistant will support the Tax Team with all aspects of tax compliance including indirect tax, corporate tax and employment taxes. Assist in providing tax advisory support to the wider Business. This includes responding to tax queries from the wider business, supporting the development of processes and also ad hoc project work.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting in the preparation of the annual corporate tax provisions and information packs sent to external advisers for the completion of corporate tax returns ensuring high standards of accuracy at all times. This will include analysis of tax sensitive items and capital allowances analysis on fixed assets. Over time, this may extend to the initial preparation of simpler corporate tax provisions and information packs.
  • Supporting in the preparation of the Group's statutory returns, including Corporate Tax return, in accordance with legislation and HMRC guidance, within required deadlines for review by the Tax Manager.
  • Supporting the Tax Manager in reviewing the group VAT returns and underlying vat treatment of sales and purchases.
  • Supporting the Tax Manager in ensuring the Group is tax compliant and errors are minimised by checking the correct VAT liability is being reported on Income and expenditure.
  • Acting as a point of contact in the Tax team for handling simple tax queries and providing follow up advice to the wider business
  • Supporting in the review of tax treatments on invoices and expenses for PAYE Settlement Agreements and benefits to enable accurate and timely tax reporting.
  • Supporting the Tax Team in providing the group finance teams with guidance on the range of tax matters, including VAT and corporate taxes, benefits taxation seeking advice from the Tax Manager where necessary.
  • Working on ad hoc project work as directed by the Senior Tax Manager / Tax Manager.
  • As professional and business knowledge develops, identifying and proposing improved process efficiencies and agreeing how these can be taken forward with the Tax Manager.
  • Developing technical tax knowledge in order to ensure that accurate and contemporary advice is provided to group companies.

Please apply if you have most of the following:

  • Experience of working in a finance team working with tax matters.
  • ATT, AAT, part qualified tax accountant/accountant or demonstrable relevant financial academic or work experience.
  • Ideally some experience with VAT returns.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with numbers in a similar discipline.
  • Ability to apply existing experience to a tax role.
  • To have a basic understanding of indirect tax principles - for example: input tax, output tax and VAT recovery
  • To have a basic understanding of other taxes - for example: Corporation Tax, Import VAT and duties, Employment Taxes
  • Knowledge of tax is desirable but a genuine interest in the area and a willingness to learn is more essential. As such we would welcome applications from other finance disciplines.

  • Flexible working but ideally 75% on site in Cambridge
