Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellowship in Hydrocephalus Neurosurgery. This is a full-time post based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), which is part of University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).

The NHNN is an internationally renowned hospital for clinical practice and world-class clinical research in neurosciences. It is also closely associated with the Institute of Neurology (ION). Together, the NHNN and ION are regarded as the premier neurosciences centre in the UK. The Victor Horsley Department of Neurosurgery provides a comprehensive elective and emergency neurosurgical service for the UCLH Trust, a large area of North Central and West London and its associated hospitals and the local community/GPs. In addition, there are large numbers of National and International referrals to specialist Neurosurgical services.

This is a full time clinical academic post, designed to fit the requirement of young investigators at an early stage of their surgical career, who are keen to learn research methodology, with overall plan to progress into neurosurgical career. The applicant is encouraged to pursue a higher degree in the field of hydrocephalus research and cerebrospinal fluid dynamics research. The post is full time and does not involve on call commitment or banding.



The main duties are: to assist in the running of a clinical studies and trials and to assist in applying for research grants for new trials. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain extensive experience of clinical trial conduct, clinical aspects of hydrocephalus, study design and research methodology. The post holder must complete Good Clinical Practice training prior to commencing the post. The post holder will participate in a weekly MDT that is focused on people with hydrocephalus during this time to acquire extensive experience in the diagnosis and management hydrocephalus.
