Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic band 6 static Occupational Therapist in neurology to join West Middlesex Hospital. In May 2024 a new stroke unit will be opened offering a 24 bedded unit equipped with a new gym, kitchen, quiet assessment area, garden and therapy office. This will improve the existing ward environment for patient and staff to deliver high quality care and rehabilitation outcomes.

This post would be suited to either a band 5 or band 6 Occupational Therapist wishing to specialise in Neurology / Stroke



To be a Specialist Occupational Therapist and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. The post holder will be a specialist practitioner and may work across various clinical specialities which will be in the form of a static post.

To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing specialist stroke and neurological assessment and treatment to own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date therapy records.

To use evidence based principles/current best practice and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

To participate in CPD and other developmental activities

To regularly supervise, teach and support more junior staff, assistants and students on placement.

To have the opportunity to participate in, or lead, a departmental research project.

To assist in the day to day running and organisation of Stroke and Neurological therapy service to patients on the stroke unit, and elsewhere in the hospital.

To work flexibly when needed to support other therapy teams such as medical rehabilitation and ED and acute medicine.

To participate in appropriate evening and weekend service provision e.g. stroke assessment, respiratory or rapid response
