Summary


Deputy Head of Nursing

The function of this role will be to support the Head of Nursing for Acute and Emergency Medicine, having direct line management and delegated responsibility for a medical speciality whilst also overseeing inpatient activity and flow.

The post holder will deputise for the Head of Nursing as required and will liaise closely with the Clinical Director, Care Group Manager, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals and others to ensure effective support to the service.

Within the Acute and Emergency Medicine specialties, the post holder will be a highly credible, competent, visible and experienced practitioner, capable of functioning effectively across the four key role domains (expert practice; leadership and consultancy; education and training; service development, research and evaluation). They will use their expert knowledge and skills to develop safe effective pathways of care for patients within Acute and Emergency Medicine

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of a Speciality service as well as taking a lead on Inpatient flow within the care group both operationally, clinically and managerially.

The post holder will act as a professional role model to all nurses and will take corrective action to uphold the standards required of the Trust and the profession. This will include participating in hospital specific shift arrangements to provide professional advice and leadership during evenings (including nights in extreme circumstances), weekends and bank holidays in support of the operational teams.

The post holder will be available to patients, their families and staff to provide assistance, advice and support and to address problems and concerns as required.

The post holder will be a highly competent, proactive, visible and experienced practitioner who uses their specialist knowledge and advanced skills to support the care of speciality patients.

The post holder will take the lead on quality, safety and patient experience across the specialty area and support the Head of Nursing across the wider care group.

The post holder will be able to resolve clinical issues quickly and effectively; to minimise any negative impact on the quality of patient care and to monitor safety within their areas of responsibility by reviewing and triangulating information
