Summary


This post is suitable for a registered nurse already working at the level of a Band 6 CNS in Pain Management or potentially, a registered nurse with evidence of pain related improvement activity, who works in an acute ward/unit with a strong desire to learn, evidence of self-directed learning related to pain and track record for improving pain management for their patients ie Link nurse or Pain Champion experience. We are looking for someone who has the commitment, professionalism and dedication to make a difference to our patients. Working in our well-established acute pain setting you will have to opportunity to develop clinical skills, hold responsibility for your own caseload under the close supervision of an experienced team leader, offer advice with support of the team to medical and surgical teams about pain management and act as an advocate for patients and their carers. You will have the opportunity to work with three major hospitals; Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary’s all with a world renowned reputation for education, research and expert clinical care provision.

As a Junior Clinical Nurse Specialist you will play a critical role in ourorganisation’s commitment to deliver kind, collaborative, expert and aspirational care to all our patients and their carers, every time. You will deliver all aspects of the role under the direct supervision of all clinical nurse specialists including the Lead and Consultant Nurse within the Pain Service in line with our policies/ guidelines and the NMC code of conduct. You will work harmoniously alongside consultants in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, wider MDT physio, psychology and radiology staff to ensure the smooth running of the Chronic Pain Clinic/ Qutenza treatment and contribute towards progressing our transformational agenda in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Core Standards for Pain Management Services in the UK (2021). You will help deliver training to ward/unit based nurses related to pumps and pain assessment supported with “getting on top of pain” algorithms alongside contributing to audit and documentation of all aspects of the care we provide patients related to their perioperative, rehabilitation and pain related outcomes. The development of Link Nurse/Pain Champions across the Trust will be your major focus in parallel with your educational and professional learning needs. Success, progress and achievement will be benchmarked using the RCN Knowledge and Skills Framework for Pain Nurses (2015, 2021).
