Summary

The Role:

You will be part of the team at the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP).

You will participate in a varied workload across a range of specialisms including: maintenance and supply of algae and protozoa ensuring that their taxonomy, photographs and information is up to date. You will be responsible for the lab management of the scaling up facilities at the CCAP-ARIES centre, and for training and support delivery of CCAP-ARIES projects, growing and harvesting large biomass of algae and associated activities (spanning SAMS/CCAP research, commercial and education). You will also participate in the Food Standards Scotland toxic phytoplankton monitoring programme at SAMS.

To follow procedures to ensure compliance with the CCAP (ISO 9001:2015) and toxic phytoplankton monitoring (ISO 17025:2005) accredited Quality Management Systems.

The post will sit within a pool of research technicians/support scientists managed by our Technical Resources Manager. Individuals will be expected to proactively engage with a varied workload to support the requirements across the business.


Our Ideal Candidate:

You will have a relevant degree and/or proven experience in a similar role, with excellent communication skills. Ideally, you will have microbiology skills and experience working with algae and/or protozoa. You will be well organised with the ability to multi-task and work well as part of a team that serves a wider research/business/educational community.
