Summary

Work with the library team to identify the most effective ways to meet the information needs of Trust staff and students, and implement agreed actions to meet them. Maintain excellent customer service and relationships through a positive attitude and commitment to a user-driven service. Work with the library team to provide a high quality, user-centred library service and foster good working relationships within the team and with library users. Deliver front line services for library users, including library inductions, answering enquiries and the delivery of any aspect of operational library work as required Deliver information skills training to groups and individuals enabling them to effectively undertake literature searches and access electronic resources. Liaise with departments and wards to ensure their information needs are met, and to support service delivery. Develop and maintain relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff and help mobilise knowledge. Market and promote the library service to Trust staff and students by a variety of means including the use of social media, the intranet and the library website. Undertake complex literature searches tailored to users needs, choosing appropriate electronic resources and using agreed methodology. These may include information summaries or syntheses if required, analysing findings and judging suitability of results, ensuring high quality information to support patient care, management decision making, service improvement and policy development. Resolve issues for users concerning access to resources and problems with information systems. Ensure the delivery of library and knowledge services are accessible to all staff and students across the Trust regardless of work base, profession or work pattern. Responsible for the efficient running of the library management system, interlibrary loans system, library use database and link resolver as a major responsibility. Suggest and implement agreed developments to systems to improve efficiency and customer care. Manage journal subscriptions and monitor usage to ensure best use of resources and inform future purchases. Maintain and manage library stock within our agreed collection development policy, both print and electronic, processing, cataloguing, developing and maintaining the collection in response to the needs of all library users. Develop working practices within own work area and make recommendations for service developments which may result in changes to service delivery. Plan, allocate and supervise the day to day work of the library assistant. Maintain the library policies and procedures manual and propose changes when necessary; work with the library team to ensure that changes are implemented. Actively participate in local and regional training or collaborative working with other health libraries and related organisations. Collaborate with Trust staff and partner organisations on project work and ongoing tasks, providing library or knowledge based expertise. Work with the Library & Knowledge Services team to design and deliver regular current awareness services, creating tailored updates in response to the needs and interests of Trust staff, including specific staff groups. Create and administer online OpenAthens accounts for library users, allowing users to access online resources both within and outside the Trust Network. Promote a culture of continuous service improvement by ensuring that appropriate audit, statistics collection and other formal and informal research activities regularly take place, including contributing to local and national evaluations of the impact of health library services. Support the Head of Knowledge and Learning in service adherence to national standards for NHS Knowledge and Library Services such as the Quality & Improvement Outcomes Framework Ensure efficient operation of the library IT facilities and equipment, ensuring proper usage and liaise with the Trust IT department, reporting and tracking faults. Responsible for handling and recording petty cash received for photocopying and other library services. Act in accordance with relevant legislation and information governance requirements e.g. data protection, copyright legislation. Assist the Senior Librarian and library team colleagues with other activities as necessary.
