Summary

Effectively utilises members of the multi-professional team within the Trust to enhance patient care and positively impact on patient safety. Routinely work using own initiative and have the ability to seek advice when necessary from the most appropriate personnel. Provides continuing support and advice to ward staff when dealing with patients at risk of deterioration and those patients deteriorating in ward environments. Ensures the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patients are respected and upheld at all times. Demonstrate the ability to learn, develop and apply new and existing skills to maintain standards and quality of care. To be professionally accountable for own actions, aware of limitations, actively seeking advice and support when necessary. Provide educational input to specific established training programmes. Work closely with CAP team to deliver education in line with identified current themes within the Organisation and clinical need. Provide bedside teaching to all health care professionals involved in the management of the acutely / critically ill patient. Encourage a learning environment that enhances understanding of the relevance of an evidence base to practice at ward level. Act as preceptor and mentor as required, actively encouraging staff to development skills with regard to the management of acutely / critically ill patients. Line manage junior team members. Demonstrate leadership abilities to support enable and inspire all members of the multi-professional team in the provision of safe comprehensive acute care. Assist in the development and maintenance of policies for Acute Intervention Nurse, ensuring all policy and service developments are impact assessed in respect of equality requirements. Assist as requested with recruitment, absent management, and training of staff. Encourage others to strive to develop excellence within the clinical area. Implements change processes which support Trust protocols, procedures and directives. Participates with audit projects. Keeps accurate and contemporaneous records of the patients condition, treatment and progress as an on-going daily process. Updates the band 7 Senior Sister with all issues relating to Acute Intervention Nurse activities within the Trust as an on-going process. Uses IT skills to produce management information, reports, audit data and other material. Attends team brief and other information giving meetings. Possesses skills of delegation, arbitration, negotiation and leadership. Performs audit of the Acute Intervention Nurse Service, evaluates findings and changes practice where required to improve patient or service outcomes. Empowers and supports staff in the delivery of care to acutely ill patients.
