Summary


We are looking to recruit a fixed term contract IT desktop support engineer to work within the End User Support Team primarily based at Royal Derby Hospital. This is to assist with onsite Desktop Support calls and a number of technical IT support calls and projects ongoing over the next 12 months

The main duties include prioritising and responding to helpdesk calls. Provide 1st and 2nd line support for the Trust IT systems, desktop devices and peripherals within the hospital and at off-site community locations.

The post holder will manage and participate in the support of IT systems and have a detailed knowledge of systems and infrastructure required to diagnose and resolve IT related issues, such as: Microsoft operating systems and applications, configuration of network printers, endpoint updates issues and VPN remote access support. This role will be continually making decisions about technical escalations, reacting to emerging technical situations and dealing with IT issues. Follow standard operating procedures for the progress and resolution of technical calls. Plan and organise day to day activities around managing work queues and priorities. There is likely to be times where planned work will need to be adjusted due to variable workload or higher priority calls coming in. Responsible for installation and/or repair and maintenance of physical assets and demonstrating and training the safe user to end users. The role is required act independently within appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines, deciding when it is necessary to refer to their manager.

The post holder will provide support to the Trusts IT user population in order to minimise the disruption caused by device, application or user error. They will provide support in relation to applications available at the desktop, assist in the maintenance of the Trusts Directory of IT users and assist in the receipt, testing and pre-deployment configuration of IT desktop devices (PCs, printers and other equipment), including asset labelling and security marking.

Key responsibilities include:
• Assist with installation/configuration of IT desktop devices (PCs, printers, and other equipment) assisting users with any first use problems.
• Document processes and procedures to assist with PC/Printer configuration and software installation.
• Maintenance of IT desktop devices in order to minimise the disruption caused by deterioration and failure.
• Diagnose hardware/software problems escalating to external agencies where appropriate.
• Utilise the Trusts Remote Management software to assist with remedial work.
• Responsible for own workload, managing own time and tasks to best efficiency.
• Assist in the periodic audit of IT assets and associated records.
• Assist with control of equipment stock levels, liaising with other officers on order requirements and asset disposal.
• Provide technical support to users of desktop and mobile IT services. Ensure that support is provided in a responsive and customer focused manner with minimal disruption to users and maximum benefit.
• Perform installations, upgrades and replacements of hardware and software.
• Co-ordinate work with IT maintenance contractors, arranging call-outs and monitoring performance against the terms of contracts including occasional work outside of normal hours.
