Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will join our small team serving University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, based on the Queens Hospital Burton site. We manage the internal quality control and external
quality assessment for all of these systems within our quality improvement role and work closely with other clinical services to develop and extend point-of-care clinical services to patients across Derbyshire.

Candidates will have to be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, must be self-motivated and organised in order to work as part of a flexible team. Previous experience of working within a
point-of-care team and/or providing clinical services directly to patients would be an advantage.

As the successful candidate will be working directly with children and adults, an extended DBS check will be required for this post.

The laboratory operates a Mondays to Fridays service and ensures the provision of point-of-care services for clinical teams are available throughout the year.

It is an essential requirement that applicants have demonstrable pathology laboratory experience.

We also require the successful applicant to travel to locations within Derbyshire and Staffordshire, so a driving licence is essential.

The Point-of-Care Technologies department hold sweat testing and breath hydrogen clinics regularly each week in clinical settings, so direct patient care skills are desirable for this post. We also handle a wide range of direct and telephone queries, so interpersonal skills are the key to success.

The point-of-care analytics we support on a daily basis are: GEM5000 blood gas analysers, Freestyle Precision Pro blood glucose and ketones meters, CoaguChek Pro II INR meters, Haemoglobin meters, Affinion 2 HbA1c analysers, StatSensor eGFR analyser, Wescor Macroduct sweat collection system, Abbott ID NOW Influenza A&B.
• Communicate authorised test results by telephone and/or in writing to service users, giving advice on sample/specimens and the tests to be performed.
• To inform requesting sources of incorrect requests and samples so that these can be actioned.
• To carry out training sessions for staff in the correct and safe use of point of care technologies
• Assist with the induction and training of new laboratory staff within the section.
• To act as a role model, ensure that all team members or visitors to the department are given instruction on safety and infection control and maintain a safe clinical environment for all staff, patients and visitors.
• To provide support and training on the POC equipment provided by the POC department across all UHDB sites

Closing date of applications: 28 April 2024

Interview date: 10 May 2024
