An exciting opportunity has arisen for an IT lead (afc band 6) for the Biochemistry department at Barking, Havering, Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust (BHRUT). We are looking for a proactive, experienced and results driven individual to support the day to day running of the Pathology IT systems and middleware relating to Biochemistry and Point of Care Testing services. You will also be expected to provide IT support to the Biochemistry and Point of Care Testing service departments to meet requirements across the Trust and community hospitals to ensure the high-quality clinical service is maintained.

We currently have the Clinisys Winpath Enterprise LIMS in pathology and the CITM middle ware in the Biochemistry department, that is due to be upgraded to Infinity. You will be a key individual to the implementation of this project.

The successful candidate for the post will need to have an extensive knowledge of laboratory information IT system, middleware, plus a developed understanding of the requirements for UKAS and Quality Management Systems. The post holder will work closely with the Pathology IT, Laboratory Managers and Clinical Leads, providing timely and accurate information concerning all aspects of Pathology IT system relating to Biochemistry and POCT across the Trust and community Hospitals.

The post holder will be overall specialist responsibility of IT system and hardware relating to Biochemistry & Point of Care Testing (POCT) and leadership for the management, development, implementation and upgrades of the computer system for Biochemistry & POCT discipline across the BHRUT and community hospitals. To ensure the IT system in Biochemistry & POCT fulfil the departments operational and business requirements to provide a timely and accurate delivery of a high-quality clinical service.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way inreducing the time our patientswait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to beaccredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of theNorth East London Cancer Alliance.
