Summary


Staff Nurse (Band 5)

Part time 0.60wte (22.5hrs a week)

We are looking for a new member of the Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases (PID) team to support our infection screening and management service at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC). As well as being involved in facilitating these clinics the successful applicant will work alongside the PID nurses to provide excellent family centred care to our patient cohort.

BRHC provides a tertiary referral service for specialist care for children with underlying primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and complex infectious diseases in BNSSG and across the Southwest Region.

Working in a busy department the successful applicant will be required to have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a willingness to develop their knowledge in the specialist area of immunology and infectious diseases, working within the wider PID team which includes the OPAT and Vascular Access teams. Relevant training such as phlebotomy will be supported to enable this.

In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in research related to “Childhood Infection and Immunity”.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist the PID nursing team to ensure efficient running of clinics.
• Provide phlebotomy services for PID patients in outpatient clinics and on the wards when required.
• Administer vaccinations and other medicines.
• Preforming Mantoux testing
• Homecare training for parents and training children to swallow tablets
• Provide advice and information to patients/families and be able to escalate any concerns appropriately.
• Maintain patient databases.
• Participate in audits, research and support service development i.e. patient questionnaires.
