Summary

The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences is seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer, based in the School of Chemistry, to support the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI – www.psdi.ac.uk) project and as part of the wider Faculty Operating Services. You will work closely with PSDI internal and external stakeholders and project partners to develop and assist in delivering the communications, marketing and engagement strategy. This will involve engaging the physical sciences community through a range of different methods and platforms, by designing and developing relevant content, and supporting the branding of PSDI.

The Physical Science Data Infrastructure (PSDI) team initiative is an EPSRC funded large scale infrastructure project between the University of Southampton and the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC). PSDI sits in the School of Chemistry and aims to enable researchers in physical sciences to discover, capture, manage and share research data more easily by connecting and enhancing the different data infrastructures they use. Through PSDI researchers will be able to:

Find and Access reference quality data from commercial and open sources
Combine data from different sources
Share data, software and models including experimental and simulation data
Deploy close-to-data computation and containerisation of data and software
Use AI to explore data
Make the results of their research open and FAIR
We are looking for candidates who will bring a passion for communication and engagement, demonstrating experience from concept through to delivery, and have a proven record of accomplishment for delivering high quality communications campaigns.

Specifically, you will have:

Exceptional organisational skills, with an eye for detail, able to prioritise well and manage often multiple tasks and deadlines.
Experience as an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and confident with building relationships and working alongside a variety of colleagues.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to successfully communicate across a wide range of stakeholders/partners/team members from both academia and industry.
Evidence of proven work experience acquired in relevant roles and job-related training. You will be professional, clear thinking and maintain a diligent work ethic.
An interest in/passion for the physical sciences, you do not need to have in depth scientific knowledge but the capacity to demonstrate an appreciation for PSDIs aims and objectives is highly desirable.
Equality, diversity and Inclusion is central to the ethos in Chemistry, having held an Athena SWAN Silver award since 2014.
