Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Mental Health Nurse ,Social Worker or OT to join our Family Safeguarding Service as a Mental Health Practitioner based in Bury.

This is a unique role with feedback from other pilot sites stating ‘social workers and adult specialist staff say that it improves engagement and outcomes for families and they wouldn’t want to work in any other way’(DfE published evaluation in 2020)

We are looking for an organised, compassionate, and reflective individual who is passionate about working collaboratively with families to safeguard children.

We are looking for someone who is a skilled mental health practitioner who is eager to take the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team for the benefit of our families in Bury.

You would provide specialist assessment and interventions for parents of children open to the Family Safeguarding Team who have identified mental health issues which are impacting on their ability to safeguard their children.

The integrated service offers preventative early intervention. The overall aim is to provide families with the right mental health support, at the right time, in the aim of keeping families together when it is safe to do so.



You will join a team of practitioners to provide high quality safe and effective care for our service users. You will be provided with regular clinical supervision from one of the Clinical Psychologists in the team and there is a strong emphasis on reflective supervision.



Key roles and responsibilities include:
• Completing mental health needs and risk screening assessments.
• Signposting service users to relevant services
• Consulting on mental health issues to teams within the Family Safeguarding Service.
• Attending team meetings and group supervisions as needed in Family Safeguarding team.
• Assisting the service user to engage in relevant adult mental health services and contributing to the development and implementation of service evaluation measures.
• Undertaking short-term supportive, psychologically informed intervention work with parents who have anxiety and other mental health difficulties that impacts upon their ability to engage with the Family Safeguarding Service.
• Co-facilitating training, workshops, and disseminating knowledge of mental health difficulties across the team/s.



The Family Safeguarding Service is based within Bury Council (BC) and the Mental Health Practitioners Family Safeguarding are employed by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust (PCNFT) and seconded to BC. We therefore work closely with both organisations. PCFT provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across the borough, NHS Talking Therapies Bury and child/ adolescent services. flexible working, we believe that a positive work/life balance benefits NHS employees through improved health and wellbeing. This is a fixed term contract until the end of March 2025, with potential to become permanent.

Permanent funding is being sought to extend the roles. Should funding not be made recurrent, the postholders will be supported to find suitable alternative employment within the Trust at the end of the contract term.
