Summary

As one of the leading agency suppliers to the HM Prison Service, for the provision of maintenance trade & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a waste/ recycling operator for Wayland Prison, Grinston near Thetford.
The waste / recycling operative role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. You are always in demand, always busy and, based on performance, is likely to be a long-term role with the option of being employed directly by the prison service.
As part of the Facilities & Waste Disposal team, you will be responsible for maintaining the general cleanliness, waste, and recycling of the prison, including prisoners, staff, and admin areas. You might also pick up some basic duties for the garden, so maintain the garden and do any duties if needed.
There will be contact with serving prisoners, supervising them whilst carrying out the waste and recycling tasks i.e., general rubbish clearance and undertake quality control over their work.
You will be asked to collect, process, and dispose of waste materials from all areas of the prison establishment in the most effective way but adhering to their strict policy in regard to all waste compliance and environmental issues.
Working in a similar waste or recycling role before would be preferred, but full training is provided by the establishment/department, which is fully paid for, so applicants from any background will be considered for the role. As well as someone that would not mind doing some gardening duties.
You will work from Monday - Thursday, 6:50am- 4:30am and Fridays 6:50am to 11:00am.
The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks. You will also need to be reliable and consistent, level-headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills.
Due to the in-depth background checks the prison holds, the procedure can take up to 3 and a half weeks.
