Summary

KS1 Teaching Assistant with classroom and 1:1 responsibilitiesStart date September 2024This post is a full-time one-year contract, working across our Key Stage One classrooms supporting the class teachers, working with and supporting different pupils with at least a 50% 1:1 element of support. The post start date is September 2024 but an earlier date could be considered for the right candidate.
We are looking to appoint a friendly, calm, caring and enthusiastic person to join our dedicated team of education support staff, working within the classroom to support the learning of the children including working on a 1:1 basis with SEN pupils at least 50% of the time.

Classroom TA role:
This is a key role, working alongside an experienced teaching in Key Stage 1, working under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes. The successful candidate will assume the role of classroom teaching assistant, working closely with the teacher to support different pupils in class and leading small group work in the afternoons. There will also be an element of 1-1 SEN support within the role. They should have a good understanding and knowledge of phonics and will lead a small phonics group as part of their role.
Working as part of our KS1 team, they will be responsible to the class teacher and our KS1 Lead, and will benefit from the guidance and support of an experienced team and flexibility and initiative are desirable qualities.
Overview of Key responsibilities:
Supervising and providing particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
Assisting with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans
Establishing a constructive relationship with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
Setting challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
Providing feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher
Creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans
Using strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
Assisting with the planning of learning activities as and when appropriate
Monitoring pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievements/progress as directed
Providing detailed and regular feedback to the class teacher on pupils’ achievement, progress, barriers to learning etc.
Promoting good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
Establishing constructive relationships with parents/carers
Assisting the teaching staff in the smooth transition between educational phases
Supporting pupils in their learning in all areas of the curriculum
Undertaking structured and agreed learning activities/teaching support, adjusting activities according to pupil responses and needs
Undertaking and leading intervention and further support group work in English and maths, recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher
Supporting the use of ICT in learning activities and developing pupils’ competence and independence in its use
Supporting pupils and teacher during PE and other practical activities.
Preparing, maintaining and using equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assisting pupils in their use
Assisting with the supervision of pupils at break times
Accompanying teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and taking responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher
