About the role:
To meet our vision of achieving far-reaching, progressive change and impact through learning, we are seeking to recruit an inspiring and motivated Learning Mentor to join the Group Learning Support team in Surrey, based at our Merrist Wood campus.
Group Learning Support works with young people who face barriers to education, including learners with special educational needs and those with an EHCP. This post provides an excellent opportunity for someone with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students and providing the support needed in order to ensure that they can achieve.
The main purpose of the role of Learning Mentor is to provide individualised coaching and support to learners using a range of support modes. Support will take place 1:1 or in small groups and sometimes within the classroom.
Responsibilities include:

Work with specific learners to develop their learning and achieve their goals/targets
To liaise with curriculum Tutors, Learning Support Assistants and Team Leaders keeping them well informed about how their learners are progressing that you mentor and the impact your support is having
To work with the Team Leaders to ensure smooth transition to college and to assist where and when necessary with the induction of learners to college
Implementing strategies and supporting learners in activities that develop their self-esteem and confidence-building

What do you need to be successful in this role?

The ideal candidate will be resilient, articulate and able to form positive relationships with young people.
Strong team values, a desire to innovate within the learning experience and the ability to adapt flexibly to the changing needs of learners are essential.
You will demonstrate experience of teaching and learning strategies to motivate and engage learners to progress.
You will possess a sound knowledge of SEND, safeguarding and advancing EHCP outcomes.
Excellent communication and organisation skills are required alongside the ability to role model professionalism.
To be able to work independently and to demonstrate the flexibility that will contribute to the team’s effectiveness is a must.
Competent IT and administration skills are essential.
You will also possess the ability to respond to change positively.
