What is the role about?

An Employment Support Officer plays an important role in turning job starts into job outcomes, with responsibility for providing work place support to participants (with more complex in-work support requirements) and to their new employer.

Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Explaining Access to Work to an employer who is unfamiliar with the process
  • Meeting the employer to discuss their new starter’s work place support requirements. This could include making reasonable adjustments such as improving accessibility or purchasing specialist furniture/equipment
  • Providing information and advice to the employer on a specific health condition / disability, the impact it can have on an individual and likely support requirements
  • Spending time onsite in the first week to help the participant learn his/her new role and settle into their new environment
  • Making frequent visits to the participant and employer in the first few weeks to provide support and help address any issues that arise
  • Marketing our services and products to SMEs through networking events, targeted email campaigns, 1 to 1s

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment, e.g. Customer Services Assistant, Retail Assistant.
  • An understanding of in-work support and reasonable adjustments that can be made to support employment.
  • Technical skills include strong administration skills, good computer/technology skills, basic numeracy skills and good written communication/record keeping skills.
  • Personal interests include interest in people and willingness to learn.
  • Personal circumstances include willingness to travel locally (e.g. to meet Participants /Employers)
  • A minimum of 2 A-Levels or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma in combination with GCSE English Language Grade B or above (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). If you do not possess this level of qualification you will be required to achieve a Level 2 in a Literacy Assessment conducted at interview stage.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of having worked in a telephone based customer service or business to business sales or equivalent role.
  • Experience of working in a performance target driven environment, such as business to business sales or equivalent. Examples of such experience may include working as an Employment Adviser on a similar contract, being a Recruitment Consultant or experience of Business Development roles, etc.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment. Examples of such experience may include working as a Holiday Representative or Recruitment Consultant, etc.
  • Experience of exposure to client groups. These client groups may include incapacity benefit claimants, single parents, those with criminal records, mental health groups, ex-services, specific ethnic minority or faith groups and those with specific disabilities
