An exciting opportunity as arisen for a Surgical Care Practitioner role in the Surgery and Associated Specialties Board at the Freeman Hospital within Urology. Whilst the post is advertised for a band 7 Surgical Care Practitioner Co-Ordinator role, consideration will be given for the successful candidate to be employed as a band 6 trainee Surgical Care Practitioner moving into the band 7 Surgical Care Practitioner Co-ordinator role once relevant training has been undertaken and competencies are met.

• In addition to the essential requirements of the role, the post holder is required to maintain and improve professional knowledge; skills and competence to ensure the delivery of evidence based practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Conduct or relevant regulating body according to professional qualifications.
• Recent knowledge and experience of robotic surgery gained through formal qualification or experiential learning.
• Evidence of highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience demonstrated by:
• Registered Nurse/ODP
• Degree / Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience.• Extensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice.
• Extended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment.
• Extended skills training – minimal invasive skills
• Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
• Effective report writing skills
• Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council & HCPC requirements for mentorship
• Effective organisation and time management skills
• Change management skills and involvement in project work.
• Good IT skills
• Able to respond appropriately to unexpected events in order to maintain service delivery.

Band 6:
• To provide expert assistance and support to the Consultants, SPR’s Nurse practitioners in the delivery of surgical and urological procedures under both local and general anaesthetic.
• Work with the NP and consultants to deliver outpatient clinics to assess and list patients appropriately for LA or general anaesthetic surgery
• The role is a training role with the aim of achieving the national Surgical Care Practitioner Qualification

Band 7:
• To provide expert assistance and support in robotic surgery to the Consultant Surgeons, SPRs, theatre staff and patients involved in robotic surgery
• Co-ordination and organisation of MIS sessions
• Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust defines Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) as a qualified nurse /ODP. A registered non-medical practitioner who has completed a Royal College of Surgeons accredited programme (or other previously recognized course), working in clinical practice as a member of the
extended surgical team. Where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to health professionals concerning a specific disease / condition.
• Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality and sphere of practice.
• Supports training within the Robotic team
• Have corporate identity as an expert within specialist area.
• Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in relation to MIS.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Providing expert assistance and support in robotic surgery to the Consultant Surgeons, SPRs, theatre staff and patients involved in robotic surgery
• Co-ordination and organisation of minimal invasive skill (MIS) sessions
