Summary


This post is for a Consultant in Acute Medicine to join a dynamic Acute Medical Unit (AMU). This is a 10 PA post, offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated physician to join an award winning,
forward thinking, education oriented, dynamic and multi-professional team.

The post will enable the AMU to continue to enhance its early management of emergency medical admissions by strengthening
arrangements for the assessment and early management of medical emergencies across the Emergency Department (ED) and AMU, managing medical patients in the early part of their hospital stay including via large embedded Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area and an Enhanced Care area. They will also make a vital contribution to teaching and training in acute medicine. The post holder will also contribute to the out of hours General Internal Medicine Physician of the Day (PoD) rota with a 3% on call supplement.

Key tasks:
• To join the existing Acute Medical Consultants in providing a comprehensive and timely assessment of patients presenting to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), including Same Day
Emergency and Enhanced Care
• To contribute to ED outreach work.
• To contribute to AMU Outpatient work.
• To participate in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and Advanced Nurse /Clinical Practitioners and Pharmacists based on the AMU
• To participate actively in both Departmental and Trust Clinical Governance and Audit.
