Introduction:

A female Direct Payments recipient with a bi-polar diagnosis, and borderline disorder in Pembroke is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their care and support needs. These conditions are controlled with medication, but can mean that they might struggle with communicating, particularly with strangers. They are generally a placid and friendly person, who can become sensitive, and aggressive if forced to endure a stressful situation.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently.
The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.

The main duties to be included within this role are to:

• Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
• Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours. Their mobility is limited. They enjoy travelling to scenic places however are limited by distance, even with the rollator aid, they cannot walk very far.
• Have an awareness of the individual’s manic thoughts which may drive them to spend money that they do not have and purchase items they do not need.
• Provide assistance getting in and out of vehicles, as well as to sit and stand from a chair.
• Support when using the toilet.
• They enjoy going to coffee shops to socialise but can struggle with conversation. Therefore will need an outgoing, patient and mindful PA who is able to guide her without being bossy and dominant.
• Ensure a structured set of activities are maintained.
• Support the person to access activities of importance.
• Access suitable community groups.
• Develop one on one interactions with the person whilst partaking in outdoor activities, which include physical activities.
• The DP recipient enjoys organising spaces. They will need someone able to assist in emptying and organising a cupboard, or pottering in the greenhouse, or their raised vegetable patch. This would be lovely as she enjoys it so much but cannot do much herself.
• Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
• Support the employer to develop independent living skills.
• Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction.
• Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Other Requirements:

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.

5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)
