Summary
Horton Housing is a not-for-profit Housing Association that manages a wide range of different housing, training and support services across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and North Yorkshire. We offer support to a variety of people, including those who are homeless or at risk, young people and refugees. We offer accommodation, skills and language support, and use a strength based approach to help the people we support achieve their goals in a manner which works for them.
We are currently recruiting for a Support Worker to join our Next Steps service in Calderdale. This is a part time, permanent position. The hours for this post are 19 per week. Next Steps service provides supports for individuals who may have complex and multiple needs, people who have experience g homelessness, rough sleeping, drugs or alcohol use and poor mental health.
The role
The Support Worker will work alongside the Support Manager to provide a personalised coaching approach for those going through the toughest of life’s transitions. You will facilitate individual development so people transition out of their situations and take control of their lives within their communities. Finally, you will also conduct regular one-to-one contacts with individuals, in order to provide practical assistance, and encourage them to take a positive approach to achieving short-term and long-term outcomes.
What we are looking for
• Excellent communication, report writing and ICT skills.
• Driving license and vehicle that can be used for business
• Enhanced DBS
• Good communication and listening skills, a respectful and clear approach to communicating with others
• Knowledge of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness including rough sleeping. gained through lived experience or in a paid or voluntary capacity
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a person-led way
• Possess high levels of emotion intelligence and resilience
• An understanding and/or experience of strength-based, trauma informed, person-led approaches to working with individuals
• Commitment to contribute towards creating and working in a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE)
