Summary

Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary up to £50k (DOE)

As a member of the engineering team, The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be joining a small but highly skilled R&D team where they will be working to progress the company's hardware products. This will entail both developing new products and reforming and improving the existing product range. Your main responsibilities will be

Key Responsibilities

- Creating new products and solutions to meet commercial requirements.

- Reimagining existing products, increasing functionality and potential applications.

- Redesigning products to deliver better performance and to improve manufacturability.

- Cost-engineering of existing products.

- Implementing and maintaining a repository of designs.

- Ensuring correct change-control procedures are adhered to.

- Supporting the production engineers in the development of rigs and processes, where required.

- Ensure all investigations and technical decisions are planned and documented effectively.

- Ensure the delivery of projects to the required timelines.

- Provide regular reports on progress and technical matters to stakeholders.

- Provide technical expertise to other areas of the business as required.

The Right Person

The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be developing complex measurement instruments deployed in difficult environments so a background in sensors or ingress protection would be beneficial as well as experience in the following areas:

- Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering, or similar.

- 4+ years industry experience.

- Mechanical design.

- Strong 3D CAD skills (e.g. SolidEdge)

- Cost-engineering.

- Design-for-manufacture.

- Design for ingress protection (e.g. IP68).

- Development from prototype through to manufacture.

- Data analysis and strong numerical skills.

- Technical writing, processes and documentation.

- Problem solving.

- Change control and repository management.

The following skills would be beneficial to a good candidate, but are not essential to the role:

- Assembly and fabrication (e.g. for prototypes).

- Experience in working with electronics.

- Fault-finding electronics and sensors.

- Low power applications.

- BoM creation and obsolescence.

- Sensor calibration and test automation.

- Rapid prototyping.

- Project management.
