APHA is an Executive Agency of the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). We are responsible for identifying, managing, and controlling incidents and outbreaks of endemic and exotic diseases and pests in animals, plants and bees, as well as carrying out scientific research. We provide unique capabilities and an evidence base for the UK government, together with international reference centre responsibilities.

Epidemiological Sciences is a nationally important, multidisciplinary department with expert skills in epidemiology, risk analysis, modelling, statistics, data analysis and management. The Data Systems Workgroup (DSG), within the Department for Epidemiological Sciences (DES), provides a focal point of expertise in data sources and data sets (including spatial data) across APHA.

The GIS team currently comprises 5 members of staff with expertise in geospatial data analysis and data management. The GIS Analyst forms an integral part of the team focused on delivering geospatial services to the Department of Epidemiological Sciences and will provide geospatial analysis, data administration and advice that feeds into the scientific research and monitoring activities undertaken by the department.

Based in the Data Systems Workgroup the GIS Analyst will join two other GIS analysts and a Senior GIS Analyst reporting to the GIS team leader.
