Summary

Laboratory Technician (FTC for 7 months)

Location: Imerys Par Moor Centre, St Austell, Cornwall, PL24 2SQ

Salary: £22,016.31 per annum (this will be pro-rated for the 9 months)

Hours of work: 37.5 hours a week, working 7.5 hours a day, alternating morning and afternoon shifts:

Week 1 = Monday to Friday 7am-3pm
Week 2 = Monday to Friday 2pm - 10pm


We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to work within the Sample Preparation and Physical Analysis team department.

The more common activities include, but are not limited to:
Taking the raw material, processing it into a testable form, (removing over size stones and waste materials), leaving a refined Kaolin for testing
Perform test measurements.
Ensure results are accurately recorded and reported using the LIMS database
Carry out daily and weekly instrumentation checks, calibration procedures, quality control sample monitoring, prove method competency, identifying instrument performance issues.
Collecting samples from the Geology Team
Follow approved guidelines on the safe use and storage of chemicals.

Please note manual handling is involved in this role, carrying bags of up to 25kg.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who has a real interest in Laboratory work and is looking for that initial step in their career. Previous experience within a Laboratory Testing environment would be ideal but not essential as training will be provided. However, the right candidate will need to have good literacy, numeracy and I.T skills, along with a GCSEs, grade A-C in Maths, English and Science.

In addition, you’ll:
Be self-sufficient and self-motivated with the capability to plan and take personal responsibility for undertaking a range of designated tasks without direct supervision.
Have good communication skills and are a team player.
Must be able to work within a laboratory environment, including the safe use of laboratory equipment and chemicals, as well as following correct manual handling procedure
