Job summaryWe are recruiting a Locum Consultant to join our myeloid malignancies, ALL and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation team. This post will have more of an ALL focus supporting Dr Errico who is currently lead for ALL
The new post-holder will join the Clinical Haematology team based at the City campus and will also provide input into the Haematology service at QMC campus. This post will join the myeloid malignancies and stem cell transplantation service alongside Dr Jenny Byrne and Dr Gerardo Errico, and candidates should have a special interest and experience in these areas. The Consultant will also contribute to general and laboratory Haematology services to the Trust.
Main duties of the jobThe Clinical Haematology department at Nottingham University Hospital is based at the City Campus in the Russell Centre for Clinical Haematology, which opened in 2006. The Department is one of the largest centres for the treatment of clinical haematology in the UK with a specialist interest in the diagnosis and treatment of haematological malignancy and a strong reputation in clinical trials and clinical research. The Centre houses all inpatient, outpatient, and Day-Case services for Nottingham in a purpose built, state of the art building comprising two wards comprising 40 dedicated Haematology beds including a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of 18 single rooms with HEPA filtration. The dedicated Outpatient Suite, Day Case and Apheresis Unit are housed on the ground floor.
Current activity within clinical haematology is 2026 inpatient episodes/year, 10,186-day case attendances/year and 43,737 outpatient appointments/year. There are currently 11 consultants (with further posts approved) who provide the Haematology malignancy service. A team-based approach with disease sub-specialisation has been established, accepting referrals from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire for complex therapies including transplantation and for specialist care such as ALL and aplastic anaemia. The department provides a supra-regional service for primary central nervous system lymphoma serving a population of 3-4 million across the East Midlands and is a designated primary TYA centre.
