Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.


The Healthcare Support Worker within the Hospital at Night team will support the Clinical Night sisters and Night Nurse Practitioners by providing clinical support to patients throughout the hospital. One key aspect of this is the ability to provide venepuncture and cannulation ensuring adherence to Trust Policies at all times e.g. Sharps Policy , Infection Control and ANTT to ensure that patient investigations and treatments can be carried out in a timely manner. The Healthcare Support Worker within the Hospital at Night team will also be expected to support ward staff in all aspects of patient care as directed by the clinical Night Sisters/Night Nurse Practitioners.

Perform venepuncture and/or cannulation with willingness to complete training if required

Provide cascade training for mandatory training e.g. handwashing

Provide all aspects of patient care when necessary to maintain patient saftey/comfort/dignity

Ensure return of H@N iPad's from team and MDT and cleaned at end of the shift

Uphold the Trust values at all times

Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events e.g. assisting with patient transfer

Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards

• Provide cascade training for mandatory training elements e.g. handwashing, manual handling etc. following appropriate training.


• Work as an effective member of the Hospital at Night team to support the Clinical Night Sisters / Night Nurse Practitioners in patient care.


• Communicate effectively with all member of the Hospital at Night team to ensure that patients receive the support they need.


• Report any concerns to the Clinical Night Sisters / Night Nurse Practitioner to ensure that patient safety is not compromised at any time throughout the night

• Perform venepuncture / cannulation as required to ensure there are no unnecessary delays in patient investigation or treatment. If unsuccessful prompt escalation to H@N co-ordinator.


• Provide all appropriate aspects of patient care when necessary to maintain patient safety, comfort and dignity.


• Ensure replenishment of H@N Team forms e.g. sign in registers. Ward round sheets, IPad sign-out sheets.


• Ensure return of H@N Ipads from team and MDT and thorough cleaning at end of shift.


• Uphold the Trust Values at all times.


• Responsible for own actions also ensuring escalation to appropriate healthcare practitioner if any concerns regarding a patient.


• Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training in defined practices e.g. Blood Glucose monitoring, ECG recording, administrative tasks as directed by Band 7 etc. Ensure referral to the appropriate healthcare practitioner where appropriate.


• Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency / clinical need e.g. assisting with patient transfers on occasion during busy periods.


• Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.


• Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust Policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
