At East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care. We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 7,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.

TheCoronary Care Unit (CCU)is a 10-bedded high tech area who’s patient group is largely patients with acute cardiac problems. The patients are usually monitored by cardiac monitors and other support devices. The Nurse to patient ratio is at the recommended higher level to enable the staff to be more hands on with the patients; deal effectively with emergencies, and invest time in communication & education with patients.

It provides a 24hr service 7 days a week to the patients of East Lancashire.

We work closely with TheCardiology Ward (B18)which a 26 bedded ward is caring for inpatients following on from the Coronary Care Unit with the facility to telemetry monitor up to 8 patients. It also includes an ambulatory heart failure clinic to enable patients to receive IV diuretic therapy in order to prevent in-patient admissions.

This is a very exciting time for us as we are also in the process of developing a new Cardiology footprint in which Coronary Care, the Cardiac Ward and Cardiac Services will come together as a new unit .This is expected to be completed by May 2024.
