Summary
Job title: Personal Assistant
Location: Ogmore Vale, Bridgend
Hours of work: 6 hours per week (over 2 days)
Rate of pay: £12.75
Introduction:
A committed, caring and flexible Personal Assistant is required to support a young woman, who has a guide dog and is visually impaired. Requires assistance within her home and also out in the community.
Hours are to be worked flexibly as required and agreed in advance, most likely 3 hours a day and spread over the week.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable me to manage my support with the assistance of a PA, enabling me to live an independent lifestyle. Training can be provided as required and where available. Must have own transport and a full, clean driving licence and be DBS checked.
Main Duties:
• To help guide and assist in and out of the home
• General help around the house i.e. opening and reading letters, putting shopping away
• Ensure my safety at all times during your working period in and out of the home
• Local to the area would be beneficial
• Support and encourage with independent living skills
• To carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.
Person Specification:
• Support, knowledge and experience with ‘Sight to Guide’
• Has a liking for dogs
• Proactive individual with local knowledge.
• Caring, honest, responsible, and patient.
• Flexibility around hours of work and main duties of the job.
• Reliable with good time keeping.
• Able to use own initiative
• Able to maintain confidentiality
• Good communication but ensuring only the employer takes the lead with commands to the guide dog.
A full driving license and use of a car is desirable but not essential. You must have business use on your insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
Benefits
5.6 weeks’ holiday per year (pro rata).
Sick pay at SSP rate.
Training provided if required, where available.
This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check, which will incur no cost to the applicant.
