Our newly expanded Senior Clinical Fellow programme includes the option of full time Emergency Medicine posts as well as 80:20 split posts between Emergency Medicine and a specialist interest.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Managerial:
• Maintaining Good Medical Practice and understanding of professional standards will be nurtured and developed, with Consultant input.
• Development of necessary “consultant” skills in dealing with complaints, quality improvement, clinical governance etc.

Administrative:
• Maintaining appropriate documentation and close working relations with clerical staff will be expected.

Teaching:
• Close working relationships with The University of Newcastle, allows exposure to undergraduate and postgraduate medical clinical teaching. The Trust’s Department of Medical Education is active in career development and mentoring of all junior doctors.
• Active participation and leading of morbidity and mortality meetings, including dissemination of learning

The specialist interest posts include Sports & Exercise Medicine, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, Paediatric Retrieval & Transfer, Point of Care Ultrasound, and Leadership. Whilst working in Emergency Medicine, you will join a team of 27 consultants, 4 specialty doctors, 16 middle grades, 28 junior doctors, 7 ACPs and over 100 nurses working in the Emergency Department. This post involves a full shift system, involving nights and weekend work. Your primary responsibility will include delivering care to the full spectrum of patients that attend the emergency department and on shift clinical supervision of junior members of the team. You will be a key component of the trauma team and will have the chance to act as the Trauma Team Leader (with supervision). You will use and develop your emergency care skills to resuscitate the most critically unwell patients. Middle grade doctors in the Emergency Department are supported by resident on-call ED Consultants 24/7.
