Our client is an independent school specialising in providing a nurturing, alternative education for young people aged 11-19 who are disengaged from mainstream education, or those with additional needs. They are a small school with only 60 students and a friendly, family-based environment that supports vulnerable young people to achieve outstanding outcomes when they were expected to achieve none.

Working in groups of maximum of 10 young people, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of our innovative Key Stage 3 and GCSE English Literature and Language and/or Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2 courses of study. You will help to ensure that students benefit from their learning and that steady and sustainable improvements are made in overall levels of retention and achievement.

You will be a strong communicator with confidence and authority yet able to win the respect of London's urban youth. You do not have to be a qualified teacher and the employer will offer teacher training if required but you must have experience in leading teaching for groups of young people from disaffected communities or having special needs. You should be able to lesson plan and manage a class, and be full of creative ways to engage, motivate and inspire young people. Ideally, you will have taught English up to GCSE to young people. You must be willing to undertake a DBS/police check.
