Then look no further as my well-established client is looking out for a skilled Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer, with a degree in Civil Engineering and relevant UK experience of minimum 4+ years' within underground structures, groundworks tunnelling, and transportation design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Job Responsibilities:

- Overseeing all aspects of tunnelling and underground structure projects from conception to completion, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Providing technical expertise and guidance to engineering teams, reviewing designs and analyses, and ensuring that projects meet industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Leading the development of innovative and cost-effective designs for tunnels, underground structures, retaining walls, foundations, and associated infrastructure, considering factors such as geotechnical conditions, structural integrity, and construction methods.
- Identifying potential risks and challenges associated with tunnelling and underground construction projects, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and expectations, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget while meeting or exceeding client requirements.
- Mentoring and coaching junior engineers, providing guidance on technical matters, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and promoting professional development within the team.
- Overseeing contract negotiations, preparing bid documents, and managing contractor selection processes for tunneling and underground construction projects.

Successful candidate specifications:

To be a successful candidate for the position of Principal Civil Engineer specializing in tunnelling and underground structures, you'll typically need a combination of education, experience, technical skills, and personal qualities. Here are the requirements:

- A bachelor's degree or masters’ degree in Civil Engineering or a related field .
- 4+ years’ experience in groundworks, geotechnical assessments, tunnelling and underground construction and design projects is essential. Successful candidate should have a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from conception to completion, preferably with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
- Proficiency in engineering software commonly used in geotechnical analysis, tunnelling and underground construction, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, STAAD.Pro, Plaxis, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, structural design, and construction methods specific to underground environments is also necessary.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and execute projects effectively while managing resources, budgets, and schedules.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- A solid understanding of relevant UK laws, regulations, and industry standards governing tunneling and underground construction projects, as well as experience obtaining permits and approvals from regulatory authorities.
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, understand their needs and expectations.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
