Summary


Consultant in Clinical Oncology - Upper GI & Urology

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly department in the heart of beautiful Cornwall. Applications are invited for a Consultant post.

This role would be ideal for anyone finishing their training as it will be highly supported whilst being varied. It may also suit a senior colleague looking for a change of pace and the opportunity to share their experience in our friendly county.

As the only Cancer Centre for Cornwall, the Sunrise Centre at RCHT provides a full range of cancer treatments as close to home as possible. We are early adopters of new treatments and have a large and active clinical trial portfolio, being 2nd highest recruiters in the Peninsula. Alongside this quality of care, we also deliver in quantity, regularly being in the top 5 departments in the UK for treatments per machine and complexity. We are commissioned for thoracic SABR and working on other oligometastatic sites. We continue to be high scoring in the Cancer Patient Experience Survey, coming 8thin 2021, with our highly trained specialist nurses notably praised. With £135 million in new investments, have recently built a brand-new Haematology-Oncology Inpatient Unit, opened in early 2023.

This is an 8 PA post.
• To work alongside three other consultants in Urological cancers to develop and strengthen treatment opportunities for Cornish patients.
• To work alongside two other consultants in Upper GI cancers to develop and strengthen treatment opportunities for Cornish patients.
• To take part, promote and develop our extensive and innovative clinical trials portfolio.
• To take responsibility for the designated clinical workload including MDT meetings, out-patient clinics, radiotherapy treatment planning and in-patient care.
• To develop and promote protocols relating to treatment options for patients
• To participate in the on-call rota and develop leadership skills within the department.
• To help provide teaching for junior staff and medical students in the department
• To comply with all the clinical governance processes and procedures of the Trust
• To maintain Continuing Professional Development accreditation as per Royal College of Radiologists or Royal College of Physicians guidelines
• To participate in the Trust appraisal programme and GMC revalidation processes.
• The Trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Radiologists and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
