Healthcare Assistant

Department: Eye Clinic

Band 3 £22,816 - £24,336 per annum pro rata

Hours: 21.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

A rare opportunity has arisen on the Eye Clinic for an experienced Healthcare Assistant, with NHS experience.

The Eye Clinic is a busy dynamic area where you will work with patients from all backgrounds and all ages. You will be expected to deliver excellent patient care.

The personal attributes you will be expected to demonstrate are, excellent communication skills, a good work ethic, approachability, and friendliness.

The nursing team you will be joining are a friendly, supportive team who work collaboratively to ensure we are doing the best for our patients. As well as the nursing team you will be expected to work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team in the delivery of patient care.

• To use effective communication.
• Works well within a multidisciplinary team.
• Deals with worries, queries or concerns a patient may have in a timely and sensitive manner.
• Assists patients with any personal needs whilst on the department.

General Tasks
• Always ensure patient safety.
• Report faulty equipment and arrange for its repair.
• Assist with unpacking stores.
• Report when stocks are low.
• Undertake any other duties when requested by a registered nurse.

Specific Ophthalmic Duties
• Visual acuity testing.
• Ishihara (colour vision) testing.
• Assessment of pupil reactions (RAPD).
• Intra ocular pressure measurements (iCare).
• Auto refraction.
• OCT scans (imaging).
• Obtaining eye swabs
