Summary

About the role:

Horsham District Council is looking for a Vehicle Fitter to work as part of a team responsible for assisting with the maintenance of Horsham District Council vehicles, ensuring the work is carried out to required standards as set out by the Council and Transport Legislation.

As a Vehicle Fitter you will work within a team to ensure that the fleet of vehicles conform to current legislation and legal standards of roadworthiness, carrying out safety inspections to the vehicle fleet according to the Council’s fleet inspection programmes and report findings. You will be responsible in completing relevant documentation regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs ensuring accurate records are maintained.

You will be offered training and development opportunities in order to progress your career if desired. We will be entering into an exciting time of development with the fleet expansion to food waste vehicles and with training and development on alternative powered vehicles.

Bank holiday working is contractual, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Where bank holidays are worked, pay is at the rate of triple time for each bank holiday. Saturday catch-up working is contractual at Christmas and New Year, paid at the rate of time and a half.

Salary: £31,364 - £33,945 pa

Supplement: £6,358 - £6,881 pa

About you:

To succeed as a Vehicle Fitter, you will have experience of heavy mechanical engineering preferably within an LGV / PSV environment and you will have the ability to work as part of a team in an operational environment. You will need strong knowledge of Health and Safety legislation in an operational workshop environment and good time management skills to enable you to work to deadlines. You will be involved in the training and learning of alternative fuelled vehicles and the exciting opportunities which comes with this.
