Summary
We are looking for a talented and proactive person to join DBT’s Strategy Unit in the Ministerial Strategy Directorate, a team sitting at the heart of the organisation, to lead on cross-cutting portfolios of work. This is an exciting role where you will work closely with Ministers, senior managers, and officials within the department to set and deliver the department’s priorities and objectives.
You will be joining a supportive team who will give you the right tools and training to succeed and help you to develop your career further, with particular focus given to Learning and Developing opportunities.
The successful candidate will lead and drive forward cross-government priorities, they will support the department’s priorities across a number of areas from engaging with across-government strategies, delivering cross-cutting priorities, drafting policy briefings for Ministers and the Secretary of State and driving long-term strategic planning for the department. For example, by drafting corporate strategy (Outcome Delivery Plan ODP), supporting major fiscal events (Autumn Statement, Spring Budget, Spending Review), working with other government departments (like HM Treasury and cabinet office) or advising the Departmental board.
You will work as part of a dynamic and motivated team to deliver exciting and varied work, such as:
- Leading on the coordination of cross-cutting briefing requests for the Secretary of State’s cabinet briefings.
- Leading on policy briefings for senior officials, the Permanent Secretary, Ministers and the Secretary of State.
- Leading and developing weekly packs for the Secretary of State, Permanent Secretary and Executive Committee.
- Running a system for ministers and senior officials to track activity and ensure alignment with strategic priorities through Departmental Boards, and weekly delivery meetings between senior members of the organisation.
- Lead preparations for the Department’s Spending Review strategy to maximise funding for DBT’s objectives.
- Developing the department’s strategic approach to emerging issues and wider Government priorities; and that these priorities reflect the importance of business, international trade and investment to the UK economy.
- Proactively lead portfolios of work, delegating and project managing tasks where appropriate and driving forward strategic priority work streams on specific areas of the Department.
