About the team?

Working within a team of Gateline Assistants and reporting to the Station Manager, the role of Gateline Assistant will be the first person and the last that our customers meet and can be a very busy environment. The Station Team also consists of ticket office and platform staff.

About the job?

The purpose of the job is to be the face of Great Western and to give our customers a positive impression of the company and to exceed their expectations of customer service. The role of Gateline Assistant will be responsible for the safe operation of the ticket barriers, as well checking tickets for customers entering and leaving the station. The role also has responsibility for collecting revenue from customers without tickets. The work is sometimes stressful, but it can be a very rewarding job.

Your main responsibilities will be:

- Delivering a high level of service to customers

- Assisting in the day-to-day operation of the automatic ticket barriers

- Ensuring customer security and responding to customer enquiries

- Inspecting and issuing tickets

- Addressing customer needs in times of service disruption

- Checking and maintaining station presentation standards

- Ensuring the professional appearance of the gateline area by clearing rubbish and making sure customer walkways are unobstructed.

You'll need to be:

- Able to deliver exceptional customer service

- A Self-starter with a can-do attitude

- Confident when decision making

- Able to remain calm yet directive under pressure

- Able to work to strict procedures

As a minimum you will need to have:

- The ability to work as part of a team or independently

- Evidence of numerical ability

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Experience of working in an environment where safety is paramount

About the location?

Maidenhead station is located close to the Town Centre offering a wide range of retail shops and recreational activities.

Working pattern?

This role will require you to work a variety of shifts which will include early starts and late finishes as well as weekends and bank holiday working. Your starting and finishing times may be at times when public transport is not available, so you must be able to get to and from the station without relying on this. Early Shift Starts at 0600. Late Shift finishes at 22:30.

Additional information?

Applicants short listed will be invited to a competency-based interview. The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment medical, including a drugs and alcohol screen. A Basic DBS is also required.
